It's Indy 500 weekend, ladies & gents! And, that's why this week's #SkinBabe knows a thing or two about race cars: Lauren Kanaan! Lauren and I graduated from DePauw University and we were both involved with the TV station during our time as Tigers. Lauren is a proud Hoosier who's covered the racing industry for several years as a TV host. In fact, that's where she met her husband, 2013 Indy 500 Champ Tony Kanaan.
During my time as a TV journalist, I got a chance to sit down and interview with Lauren and Tony. They are one of those couples that you like to be around because they say whatever they are thinking and it's often pretty hysterical! There's no "air" with these two - they love to laugh.
Lauren used to work full-time in TV but since becoming a Mama has scaled back to only a handful of hosting jobs and commercial work throughout the year. Lauren spends the majority of the day as the Mom to two rowdy toddlers and her amazing stepson. She is also expecting her third baby late summer! During nap times and in the evening, Lauren manages the accounting for their company, Kanaan Racing, which handles all of Tony's racing contracts, sponsorship deals and personal appearances. Lauren is a BUSY LADY! Yet, she still makes time for consistent skincare - and, IT SHOWS. Lauren is a natural beauty!

Lauren reminds all of us that consistent skincare is key to maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin. Lauren has also either been pregnant or nursing for the last 3 years, so she shares several tips about how she's adapted to her changing skin as her body changes, too!
As I was editing this blog post, I read something that Lauren wrote that made me stop and think, "Am I doing this?" Lauren writes about NEVER leaving the house without sunglasses because whether it's sunny or overcast, sunglasses will keep you from squinting during the day and helps ward off those fine lines! Even though this isn't rocket science, I don't always do this. I immedltaly went to Target the next day and bought this pair of sunnies to keep the wrinkles at bay. #SkinBabe action right there!

What Does #SkinBabe mean to You?
When you ask that question, I am so glad this entire platform you’ve created centers around confidence. To me, being a #SkinBabe means being confident in the skin you are in! Over the past 4 years, I’ve spent (what feels like) a lot of time pregnant with one of or nursing one of my babies, which has meant some skin changes I couldn’t anticipate. And considering I’ve always battled sensitive skin and I’m in my mid-thirties, this has meant re-learning of how to make my skin happy… a handful of times!
Why Do You Like Skincare, #SkinBabe?
I like skin care, first and foremost, because it’s essential to our overall health. It is so important to prioritize skin health from the inside out. And if you do it well, glowing, youthful skin is a major perk!
What's Your Biggest MUST DO for Your Skin, #SkinBabe?
Moisturize and PROTECT! I’ve lived in South Florida for nearly 10 years so I am a big believer in daily SPF 50. I use it on myself (and my kids!) every single day, rain or shine. For my kids, it’s second nature to slather on the sunscreen before we even leave the house. Something I wish I had the habit of when I was younger, even growing up in central Indiana.

What's Your Current Face Routine, #SkinBabe?
The bulk of my skincare products come from Kiehl’s, with which I’m having a lot of luck with right now after having to mix-up my routine again recently. I’m expecting baby number 3, so my skin is acting totally different, yet again!
AM Routine
- I battle dry skin, so I do not cleanse my face in the morning. I begin with a splash of cold water.
- Dickinson’s Hydrating Toner (a great drugstore find!)
- Chanel Sublimage Eye Cream
- Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate
- Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream SPF 30
- Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ (this is my favorite product! It’s light enough to use on the kids and under your make up. And don’t forget the back of your hands!)
- And, NEVER leave the house without sunglasses. Sunny or overcast, this keep you from squinting during the day and helps ward off those fine lines!
PM Routine
- I remove make up with Sephora Coconut Water cleansing wipes and any residual eye make up with Lancome Bi-Facial Double-Action make up remover. It does not suds up and is non-drying.
- Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash
- Dickinson’s Hydrating Toner
- Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye
- Chanel Sublimage Complete Revitalizing Concentrate
- Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream
- I also use Zo Medical by Zein Obagi Melamin-C to spot treat any dark spots I see on my face and Bio-Oil on the pregnant belly to prevent stretch marks.

What skincare procedures or injectables do you use, #SkinBabe?
I’m not indulging any other skin procedures at the moment. But I cannot wait to get back to retinol and maybe some botox when I done nursing the last baby! I’m pretty sure I’ll be needing it by then! :)
What's a Product You Can't Live Without, #SkinBabe?
I cannot live without my Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50+. I spend a lot of time in the sun at racetracks. There is nothing more important for my skin than sun protection. I definitely save on body wash and body lotion. I like Dove foaming body wash and Nivea Cocoa Butter Body Lotion, which I go through a LOT of. And it smells amazing.
