Nicole In Your Neighborhood: Stepping into the Story at Conner Prairie
A full day of family fun at Conner Prairie!
As a busy mom of four rambunctious boys, one of my favorite places to spend the day with my family is Conner Prairie. I’ve been exploring Conner Prairie with my sons since they were old enough to be pushed along in a stroller. Before I had children, the extent of my understanding of Conner Prairie was tied to my field trips in grade school, growing up nearby. Now, I bring my family here often with our Conner Prairie membership and have a completely new perspective as a mom. There are more than a thousand acres to explore outdoors, enough to create a unique experience every time we visit. I love seeing my kids explore history in fun and interesting ways.
Conner Prairie is a historic place that inspires curiosity and fosters learning. From journeying into the depths of Prairietown, riding high in the sky inside the hot air balloon, or cooling down at the Civil War-themed splash area, you can truly step into the story at Conner Prairie!
I spent an entire day at Conner Prairie to showcase all the family fun!
The boys and I worked together to plan our adventure route for the day. There’s so much to explore across the more than 1,000 acres of land!
I adore how every guest at Conner Prairie has the opportunity to engage in historical education through creative ways that best suit them.
This might have been the best experience of them all –– soaring 377 ft. up in the air on Conner Prairie’s 1859 Balloon Voyage, something we will never forget. Fun fact, we were higher in the sky than the Statue of Liberty in the new Reynolds Farm Equipment hot air balloon.
Ag Adventures was created for all children with all abilities to play alongside each other. This fully accessible playground supports all children to enjoy the fun!
My curious boys got to meet so many friendly farm animals! The smiles on their faces said it all when they got to touch or hold some of their favorite little critters.
When you visit the farm at Conner Prairie, ensure you stop to speak one-on-one with an animal specialist. They care for these animals all year-round. They have so much to teach you and your young ones about farm life!
When our family crossed the covered bridge, we were transported into the southern Indiana town of Dupont and instantaneously became fully immersed in the experience! Conner Prairie's 1863 Civil War Journey never disappoints, so you know I had to get in on the action and participate in military drills alongside the boys!
While walking through Prairietown, we had the chance to meet a few of the local residents and even experience some of their immersive and historical presentations.
One of the best places to have fun in the sun is at the Civil War-themed splash area. PRO TIP –– bring a change of clothes not only for your kids but for yourself. My kids reminded me that day: don't go around water, unless you want to get wet!
The final box the boys wanted to check off their list was to get Dippin' Dots. Of course, they ended up enjoying a few bites of my strawberry sorbet, too.
