#SKINBABE: Jill Irvin Burriss
Each #SkinBabe will help us share confidence, gain confidence and inspire confidence!
There are fun people - and, then there are FUN people. Jill Irvin Burriss is a FUN GAL. I first met Jill at DePauw University. I was a few years older than Jill, but I instantly realized we had a lot in common. We both pledged Pi Beta Phi (shoot the arrow high, ladies!) and we also loved spending all of our free time at our college TV station D3TV and radio station WGRE.
Jill now lives in Los Angeles and works full-time job as Creative Director of Clevver, a YouTube network that focuses on Celebrity News & Lifestyle content. Jill’s newfound love of skincare came with taking on this position & producing 100+ episodes of her show Beauty Trippin. Jill travels the country and talks about beauty trends … can we say DREAM JOB!? Oh, and before that, Jill worked at Ellen De Generes Show Jill’s got one impressive resume - she’s also a busy, busy lady. Jill admits taking time for her own self care doesn’t come easily. That’s why Jill, like every committed #SkinBabe, makes skincare and self care a priority and plans it out each and every week.
#SkinBabe Jill Irvin Burriss reminds us that skincare and self care are absolutely tied to confidence and productivity! In fact, Jill shares that it’s important to remember that confidence comes in waves, big and small, and we should always be ready to ride it. I LOVE that perspective - not every day or even every week is a “good one” but we must appreciate the journey. When I asked Jill to share her favorite motivational quote she shared this one from Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” All of us can make the world a better place & the small things that we do, do matter. Reminding each other to focus on loving our ourselves, is a good start, #SkinBabe!
#SkinBabe, be sure to read all of Jill’s skincare knowledge as she shares detailed skincare tips & tricks, favorite products & CONFIDENCE!
What Does #SkinBabe mean to You?
Being a #SkinBabe means you're in touch with self care! Not all the time, and maybe not even every single day, but being a #SkinBabe means you're taking some time for yourself, to take care of yourself. The benefits of being a #SkinBabe are definitely more than just skin deep!
Why Do You Like Skincare, #SkinBabe?
The way eating well & exercising makes you feel a bit better about yourself, skincare does the same! Taking care of yourself feels good.
What's Your Biggest MUST DO for Your Skin, #SkinBabe?
OILS. They seem to work best on my extremely sensitive skin. Even with"combination" skin, oils seem to help hydrate my dry areas & curb breakouts when I am oily. I love them so much, I have even started using oil-based hair products. My favorite is the dpHUE Argan Oil. dpHUE is giving $10 off with the coupon code Clevver!
What's Your Current Face Routine, #SkinBabe?
My skincare regimen is a bit of a non-routine. I have found things that work for me (and DONT work for me), and I use the things I like in a bit of a rotation. Call it unorganized (because it is), but I like to keep my face guessing when it comes to what products are coming at it.
Favorite Washes - Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser or Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil
Favorite Toner - Kiehl's Calendula Toner
Favorite Oils & Moisturizers - Sonya Dakar Omega Booster, Dermalogica Calm Water Gel, Lush 'Full of Grace' Serum Bar, or just plain ol' Maracuja Oil . Sonya Dakar is my favorite. But it ain't cheap! So, a few uses a week, I swap in a low cost Marajuca oil. It keeps my skin hydrated in-between uses of my more luxe product, which makes it last a little longer than it should!
Favorite SPFs - Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 or Kate Somerville's UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray
Favorite Misc Items - Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray, Sonya Dakar Flash Facial, Kate Somerville De-Puff Eye Balm, Ritual "Essential for Women" Vitamins, Grande Lash MD, and then a Jade Roller when I am feelin' really fancy!
What skincare procedures or injectables do you use, #SkinBabe?
Nothing yet, but on my 31st birthday I noticed two new forehead wrinkles. "I swear those weren't there yesterday!" I think I am a bit overdue for preventative treatment, but I plan to start sometime this year rather than waiting another decade. Maybe I love it, maybe I hate it, but I am interested in trying it to see what I think.
Who's Your Favorite #SkinBabe?
Just because she's at the top of my mind - Sonya Dakar! I got to work with her a few years ago on the YouTube show I produce & direct, Beauty Trippin. (Watch the episode here!). Her American Dream story was so inspiring, and even after all the success, she is still so gracious. She offered to give me a personalized facial, and while most times, I wouldn't impose on an offer like that, I couldn't pass on the opportunity with such a legend. Her facials are more like a workout than a spa treatment, but as she says, we are looking for results not relaxation!
What's the best advice you can give to women when it comes to skincare and confidence, #SkinBabe?
Healthy Skin is something that instantly makes me feel more confident. Being really productive, wearing a cute outfit, and talking to my mom on the phone does that too! It's important to remember that confidence comes in waves, big and small, and we should always be ready to ride it.
Thanks #SkinBabe, Jill Irvin Burriss! 💋
